About
Thaiglish is a Hudson Valley-based Thai-inspired pop-up run by me, Pruitt Kerdchoochuen.
As a third-culture kid, an immigrant, and a transplant, I learned early on that home is something you carry with you, the way a turtle carries its shell - a shell constructed, in my case, mostly, of food memories.
As a kid, I spent most weekends at my Great Grandmother’s house in the suburbs of Bangkok, where the coal-powered outdoor kitchen churned out an unending stream of Isarn - Northeastern Thai - dishes to feed the army of kids (my Great Grandmother had eleven), grandkids, great-grandkids, cousins and family friends who flowed in and out of the house throughout the day.
Having made a new home here in the United States, a whole ocean and a couple of continents away from my family, I started Thaiglish as a tribute to them, as well as to the markets, restaurants, and mall food courts that raised me.
More than a shrine to nostalgia, Thaiglish is also an exploration and celebration of the dynamic nature of cuisine; its ability to adapt, change and grow - just as we do.
